MISSION


Sky Meadow is a cemetery dedicated to the practice of natural burial, where the body is returned to the earth, and where the meadow itself becomes a living memorial.

 We are committed to expanding access to dignified death care in the Hudson Valley with options that are more financially accessible, ecologically safe and community-centered.

Green burial promotes the care of people in parallel to the land. It protects the land from harmful chemicals and development while supporting the well being of the ecosystem as a whole. Families and communities are invited to participate in simple burial practices, being witness to death in their own way and in their own time. Tending to grief, tending to the land, tending to the whole of each other in community.

It’s a simple formula. Body + Soil + Time. The earth is nourished by the body in accordance with the land. Decomposition is guided by the climate, the microbial diversity of the soil and the cycles of the ecosystem. Our vision is that Sky Meadow will foster conversations around death care to help re-shape the way we tend to our dead and the land they return to.
